Encouraged by the success of “Wanwu Jingmo Rumi” (Magical Peace of the World), the first collection of Wisława Szymborska’s works that came out in China in 2012, Hunan Literature and Art Publishing House has prepared another volume by the Polish author for the Chinese market.

The publication of the Nobel laureate’s second volume entitled “Wo Ceng Zheyang Jimo Shenghuo” (I Used to Live Such a Lonely Life) coincided with the Beijing Publishing Fair, a regular event that this year hosted a meeting to promote Szymborska’s poems.

The publisher’s representatives along with the staff of the Polish Embassy in Beijing familiarized the Chinese audience with the life and work of the Polish poetess. Another highlight was a recitation competition whose participants had a chance to interpret Szymborska’s poems in their own way. The winners received small gifts funded by the Embassy and the publishing house.

The Polish diplomats together with the publisher plan to stage a series of promotional meetings and poetry readings in the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Guangzhou.

2014 will see plenty of publishing premieres of Polish poets and writers in China. The following are some of the works that will come out in Beijing with support from the Polish Embassy: a volume of poems by Adam Zagajewski, a book by Ryszard Kapuściński, Karol Szymanowski’s biography, and Andrzej Maleszka’s  book for young readers entitled “The Magical Tree.”
