A symphonic orchestra is an immense organism

Co-created by individual musicians and their instruments. How do they find their place in this enormous machine? What is the role of their instrument? What do we need oboe players for? What are the obligations of the leader of the first violin section? Why do saxophone players and drummers have to be so patient? What mysteries are hidden by an orchestra and its members? Answer to all of those questions can be found in the application, filled with captivating videos and absorbing texts. Quoting one of the protagonists, renowned conductor Jerzy Maksymiuk: “Orchestra is a phenomenal liaison of perfection and beauty”.

The key part of Orkiestrownik is the Virtual Orchestra

Whose core is  a multichannel recording of Maurice Ravel’s exhilarating Bolero, a commonly known piece, which allows all the instruments to shine through. The application enables its users to trace this masterpiece measure by measure, with the means of both a dynamic score and a graphic diagram, or a flashing map of instruments. One can observe the orchestra’s play and, at the same time, the conductor’s work. Barely one click is needed to listen to any instrument and see a musician playing it, or see how long the musician has to wait for his or her big moment….

You can learn more about each individual instrument playing in a great symphonic orchestra owing to videos and texts. The application offers 25 stories about instruments, from the violin and to the harp or the snare drum. Musicians playing in the esteemed Sinfonia Varsovia tell stories about their work, their passion, the pros and cons of an artist’s profession. As oboe player Arkadiusz Krupa states: “playing an instrument equals daily training and struggling for capable fingers.” His own struggle with the instrument has been seen by almost 50,000 people and the total number of viewers of all the stories has already exceeded half a million!

Separate bookmarks are devoted to the conductor and the concert. The role of the guide has been assigned to Jerzy Maksymiuk, a distinguished Polish conductor. He explains what the role of the conductor is, what the rehearsals are for and how an orchestra is constructed. The application also contains a funny video about savoir vivre in a concert hall, a quiz with some prizes and a library with recordings of Beethoven’s, Bartók’s and Dębski’s compositions.
