Two exhibitions dedicated to Grzegorz Rosiński’s works will run in Belgium’s capital. The first one, titled Rosiński from Poland (Rosiński z Polski), presents book illustrations from the Polish period of the illustrator’s career, coming from such comics as The legendary history of Poland (Legendarna historia Polski), Captain Żbik (Kapitan Żbik) and Helicopter Pilot (Pilot śmigłowca). The exhibition is open until 31 May 2015.

From 24 March 2015, visitors to the Brussels Comic Strip Centre will also have a chance to see an exhibition devoted to the cult Thorgal saga which opened a new chapter in Rosiński’s work.

In 1976, Rosiński emigrated to Belgium, the cradle of European comics, to further develop his artistic skills and make a name for himself on the Western publishing market. That is where he met Jean Van Hamme, a screenwriter, who invited him to illustrate a new comics series, Thorgal. Soon afterwards, the first volume of the saga titled the Sorceress Betrayed came out in the Belgian comics magazine Tintin. The Thorgal series has been published as a book ever since 1980, and it remains one of the biggest hits of European comics.

From June 2015, the two exhibitions dedicated to the Polish illustrator will be complemented by a third one, centred on the work of Jean Van Hamme. The exhibitions Rosiński from Poland and Thorgal’s World (Świat Thorgala) have been co-organised by the Polish Institute in Brussels under the patronage of Artur Harazim, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Belgium.
