Marek Andrzej Karewicz (born on 28th January 1938 in Warsaw) is an artist photographer specialising in pictures of jazz and rock musicians, a music journalist, a radio and TV author, a jazz music presenter, a designer of about 1500 record covers. His archive consists of 2 million films (Karewicz is faithful to analogue photography). In his photos he made immortal, among others, Breakout, Czerwone Gitary, Ewa Demarczyk, Irena Santor, Sława Przybylska, Maryla Rodowicz, Stan Borys, Rolling Stones, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles and Miles Davis who was so delighted with a photo taken in 1983, at the concert in Sala Kongresowa in Warsaw, that he ordered for it to be enlarged to 10 x 3 metres and hang it out on a skyscraper in Manhattan, NYC, as an announcement of his new record.

Karewicz was honoured by Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique and with Golden Fryderyk, given as a Special Award for a lifetime achievement for music industry.

In the opening evening there will be special guests: Rita Cosby – one of the most famous American journalists, Tomaczek Bednarek – a music producer, and Gregory Fryc – the biggest Polish music promoter in the United States.

The opening evening takes place on Saturday, 21st June 2014, at 5 pm, in Ex-Serviceman’s Club in Edinburgh (11 Drummond Place, EH3 6PJ). Free entry but booking is required via Evenbrite.

 

The exhibition will be open at weekends, 2 pm – 6 pm, from 29th June to 6th July 2014. Free admission.
