There comes a time in Poland when the festivities of Christmas and the parties of New Years are over, when the people ready themselves for… The Grand Finale!! The biggest and most popular charity event for 21 years!
The Grand Finale is one-day, public money-collection organized by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation (WOŚP). Around 120 000 volunteers in Poland go out into the streets with distinctive money boxes and heart-shaped stickers to help the Foundation collect money to achieve its goal.
The aim of WOŚP Foundation is to save the lives of people with serious diseases, with a focus upon children, and to improve their medical condition by buying new medical equipment for hospitals all over Poland. Every year, the Grand Finale has a different theme and the Foundation raises money for a different cause. Among the previous themes, there were for instance, children’s heart surgery, saving child victims of accidents, saving the lives of infants and toddlers, saving children with kidney diseases, saving children with inborn defects, progressive methods of diagnostics and treatment in neonatology and pediatrics.
The WOŚP Foundation also plays an important part in health care promotion, propagation of medical prevention, and organizing first-aid trainings in elementary schools. The Foundation carries out five nation-wide medical programs, as well as an educational one.
In summer-time, the Foundation also organizes the biggest open-air music festival in Europe called the Przystanek Woodstock, in order to thanks all its volunteers and supporters for taking part in the annual Grand Finale fund-raising event.
What is the aim of the 21st Grand Finale?
This year, the money raised in 21st Grand Finale will be divided into two parts. First it will be used to support children medical care, and secondly buying new equipment to geriatric hospitals, and care and treatment wards at a few selected centres in every province of Poland.
The 21st Grand Finale is partly dedicated to elderly people suffering from chronic diseases, to draw Poles’ attention to issues related with good quality medical care and appropriate equipment of geriatric hospitals. A major focus as well is to explain the importance of care, understanding and respect for the seniors, which relates not only to medical personnel, but also to all of us.
The Grand Finale is inextricably linked with silent auctions, all day TVP2 broadcastings, concerts and good fun. Thanks to the hard work of WOŚP Teams, volunteers, musicians and sponsors support, this year will definitely be the same!
Not only is Grand Finale for those in Poland, but also for those abroad – so find the nearest location and join us on January 13, 2013. Have fun while helping us achieve this year’s aim!
