TRANSATLANTYK is a festival of ideas, which uses the power of film and music to promote them. Transatlantyk is the first festival that is defined as GLOCAL, which is strongly related to its position, at the same time as it has global aspirations, awareness and context. In order to honour those, who thanks to their glocal work, really are changing the face of the modern world; every year the festival awards TRANSATLANTYK Glocal Hero Award. During this year’s edition this award will be received by Yoko Ono, the legendary artist and deserved activist in aid of peace in the world. The presentation of the TRANSATLANTYK Glocal Hero Award will take place during the closing ceremony on 8th August in the Concert Hall of Adam Mickiewicz University. The day before it, Yoko Ono and ex-leader of Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore, will play a joint concert in the same place.

All of the events at the TRANSATLANTYK FESTIVAL will take place in Poznan and the Rozbitek Institute which is in Greater Poland in the village Rozbitek in the municipality of Kwilcz. The movies will be projected on the screens of Multikino 51, Muza Theatre and Pałacowe Theatre at CK Zamek.  Apart from film screenings in the programme there are also film music concerts, two international competitions for young compositors, parties in the Festival Club, panel discussions and Transatlantyk Master Classes.

This year’s film program will include over 150 films in 21 genres:  Transatlantyk Panorama, Transatlantyk Docs, Culinary Cinema, Road Cinema “Škoda. You know what’s good!”, Mobile Cinema Škoda, Sundance at the Transatlantyk, Open-air Cinema, Film way of the master, Transatlantyk Confrontations, New German Cinema, New Scandinavian Cinema 2013, Oscar – nominations for the full-length documentaries, Transatlantyk Eco, Ecstasy and nausea: B-Movies, Transatlantic Art, beyond the Genre: Superhero, Sacrum in the cinema, Season, Cycling Cinema, Transatlantyk for children and special Screenings.

The spectators of Transatlantyk will also get to see the film ‘Pieta Kim Ki-Duk’ that won the Golden Lion prize at last year’s Venice Film Festival. At the event in Poznan you can see ‘Child’s Pose’ by Calin Peter Netzer, the winner of this year’s Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) and new films of many prominent European artists: Ken Loach’s ‘Spirit of 45’ and Marco Bellocchio’s ‘Dormant Beauty’. The most important premieres from the latest edition of the American Sundance Film Festival will also be shown in a completely new genre ‘Sundance at the Transatlantyk’; it is one of the most prestigious film events in the world. Another new genre proposition in Transatlantyk will be the ‘2013 Oscar’ – the best full-length documentary, in which the spectators can see all five full-length documentary films, winners nominated for this year’s prise of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with the winner of the Golden Statuette ‘Sugar Man’, by Malik Bendjelloul , in the forefront.

One of the most important points on the agenda will be the Culinary Cinema, this section has been prepared in cooperation with the International Film Festival in Berlin. After all of the screenings, ceremonial dinners based on the cuisine from the menus of the excellent team of chefs will take place. The Screenings from the Culinary Cinema will take place from 3rd to 7th August 2013; the dinners will be made in the restaurant Transatlantyk, created in a tent funded by the festival sponsor, Škoda. You know what’s good!, located next to Multikino 51. The team of exquisite chefs will include: D.P. Arkendbout (De Vluchthaven, the Netherlands), Jakub Adamczyk (Winosfera), Tomasz Trąbski (Concordia Taste) and Radek Nejman (Vine Bridge) amongst others.

During the festival, young compositors in competitions: TRANSATLANTYK’s Film Music Competition and the TRANSATLANTYK Instant Composition Contest will compete for prizes of a total value of over $50, 000. We will meet the competition winners during the festival’s closing ceremony, on 8th August in the Concert Hall of Adam Mickiewicz University.

This year’s edition is accompanied by a contest, sponsored by the company Škoda, ‘Show us your way’, which aims to select the most interesting short films inspired by Road Cinema and the slogan “Škoda. You know what’s good!” The director will receive tickets for the European Film Festival, a car and as much fuel as they need to make the round trip.

TRANSATLANTYK’s cannot miss Master Classes, during which famous faces from the big screen from all over the world will share the secrets of their profession with the audience. Moreover, the projects will be chosen, you can take part in panel discussions, with the participation of specially invited guests Workshops and discussion all taking place in the 51, Muza Theatre, Pałacowe Theatre at CK Zamek and the Rozbitek Institute.

The organisers of TRANSATLANTYK have prepared a variety of additional attractions for the audience. In Wolności Square, there will be an Open-air Cinema, prepared in cooperation with the company VOX furniture. In several double beds the spectators of TRANSATLANTYK will watch movies (almost) in the open-air.
