A feel of a mid-spring vacation
To those unfamiliar with the term: with the first three days of May being national holidays in Poland, numerous Poles traditionally go out in the bosom of nature to celebrate the long weekend with family and friends. Be it for an outdoor concert, an enlightening sightseeing, or a simple picnic, they cherish the time spent together and the unique atmosphere of a mid-spring vacation that fills the air on these days. Altogether, this custom constitutes a key element of the Polish culture and is one of the top things that Poles living abroad miss about their home country. Days of Poland Festival was therefore designed to recreate the same vibe in London – and is highly successful in doing so.
Taste the Polish culture
During the event you get a firsthand experience on every aspect of the Polish culture: from national cuisine to art and music. All those bright colours you notice from afar are traditional outfits of numerous musical groups, who perform spectacular folk dances and songs from different regions of Poland. And plenty more is happening outside the stage, where you can explore the stalls that groan under the abundance of Polish products, souvenirs, and above all, food. There is no better place in London to taste all of the beloved classics: bigos, pierogi dumplings, croquettes and grilled sausages are but a beginning of a much longer menu of the Food Village. Families with children can enjoy their time together in a dedicated sector with a wide variety of attractions, from face painting to giant bubble shows. And once tired from all the strolling, browsing through stalls and participating in games, they can all grab a refreshing drink and a blanket and sit on the lawn to admire the stage performers, or simply soak up the joyful atmosphere.
Welcoming everyone!
Do not feel intimidated by its overtly Polish character – this is by no means an exclusive event. The entrance is free and everyone is invited to join, regardless of their cultural background. Over the years the festival has hosted tens of thousands of guests, both representatives of Polish communities and Londoners of all nationalities who wanted to taste this unique culture, or simply spend a lovely spring day together with other people. This friendly, welcoming atmosphere is perhaps the most remarkable quality of the Days of Poland Festival, and the very reason behind its popularity and the ongoing support from the Mayor’s Office. The 2017 edition will be no different: the preparations are approaching completion, and the programme is set to include all of the attractions and features that had determined the success of the event in the previous years.
