To invent or to discover? That is the question!
The Emigration Museum in Gdynia stumbled upon a brilliant IDEA FOR THE MAY BREAK! A combination of the laws of physics and chemistry, elements of astronomy, and basics of the technology and molecular biology conceal a recipe for an excellent science picnic spiked with cultural and educational highlights for all those who like to discover or do experiments. We invite the little ones, as well as the grownups, to learn, explain, and create together with us! You will find out who the father of electronics is, whose notes were radioactive, why the world revolves around mitochondrion, whether the mysterious pleograph precede the invention of the Lumière Brothers, and what NAGRA records. We will present the people who discovered monocrystalline solids, radium and polonium, and pulsar, as well as the pioneer of molecular genetics, the constructor of the first cinematograph, and the inventor of the revolutionary Magnetophon. The Day of Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad, celebrated on May 2, is the best opportunity to present the accomplishments of several Polish scientists and engineers who contributed to the progress of world science and technology on emigration, yet their discoveries aren’t normally associated with Poland. You will learn about the accomplishments of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Kazimierz Prószyński, Jan Czochralski, Piotr Słonimski, Stefan Kudelski, and Aleksander Wolszczan. This exclusive company will be presented through interesting lectures and showcases, an urban game, and film screenings. The meeting with the world of science and engineering will be enriched with experiments prepared by EXPERYMENT Science Center, workshops on instrument manufacturing, building robots, and technology of recording sound. The energetic, humorous, and full of sonic discoveries concert of the Małe Instrumenty band [ang. Small Instruments – trans.] – performed entirely on self-made instruments – will definitely constitute a unique highlight. Furthermore, we will end this eventful day with an observation of night the sky.
Come and see that Poles have ideas!
