The biannual Chief Executive Board (CEB) meetings, which are attended by the CEOs and Management Board Members of the Star Alliance carriers, are held in cities where the member airlines have their bases. The CEB meeting in Warsaw is hosted by LOT Polish Airlines.
Michał Kaczmarzyk, the director of Warsaw Chopin Airport, added: “We are very happy to be able to welcome the participants of this prestigious event together with LOT. I hope that Warsaw and our country will make a good impression on the CEB guests, convincing them that Poland is a market worth fighting for, with huge potential for new routes.”
Warsaw Chopin Airport, which is the base and hub of LOT Polish Airlines, is Poland’s largest airport and one of the biggest in East-Central Europe. The airport handles scheduled, charter, cargo and general aviation flights.
The history of the airport dates back to 1934, when it was officially opened by President Ignacy Mościcki. Over the years, the Warsaw airport has changed and expanded. Today, Chopin Airport is one of the most modern and passenger-friendly airports in Europe.
In 2014, the airport handled over 10.5 million passengers, with nearly 40 per cent being business travellers. In the 2015 Summer season the airport is offering flights to 84 destinations in 43 countries on four continents.
Chopin Airport is located less than 10 km from the centre of Warsaw and is well connected to the city and the entire region by four public transport bus lines, numerous long-distance bus services, two urban rail lines and one regional rail line, as well as an expressway.
The airport has two intersecting asphalt concrete runways and 80 aircraft parking stands on 13 aprons. There are 108 check-in desks and 16 self-service check-in kiosks. The retail area offers 40 shops and 20 cafes and restaurants.
The airport is operated by Polish Airports, a company whose activities include the construction and operation of airports, as well as the provision of services to passengers and airlines. Apart from the Warsaw airport, Polish Airports is also the operator of the airport in Zielona Góra and holds a stake in 10 other companies managing regional airports. Polish Airports has received a number of awards for the consistent implementation of its development strategy and other business achievements, including the Pearl of the Polish Economy, the Ambassador for the Polish Economy, Consumer-Friendly Company and the Superbrand status.
