World of coal mines, caves, mysterious bunkers and shelters is just waiting to be discovered! Learn about some of the most interesting Polish underground attractions:
Coal Mine Guido
Fast descent underground to a depth of 170 or 320 meters already provides plenty of excitement! And there’s so much more: you can see exhibitions dedicated to St. Barbara and the use of horses in mining industry, watch operating mining machines, ride on suspended railway or visit the deepest pub located in Europe! Lovers of strong sensations can visit additional level 355 where in complete darkness with flashlights and miner’s outfit can try hard mining work.
Salt Mine Kłodawa
While descending with a speed of 6 meters per second to a depth of 600 meters you can be sure you cannot go down any deeper! At least for the casual tourist, because this is deepest tourist trail, not only in Poland but in the world! If this is not enough you can travel through 1.5 km underground routes available to visitors, visit chamber of St. Kinga and to see the mining machinery during the extraction of salt!
Silver Mine Tarnowskie Mountains
Mining Museum, the actual walk through the excavations of the ancient silver mine and underground boat trip are the greatest attractions of the Historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Gory. Visitors have chance to walk through the underground corridors located 40 meters below the surface, where the year-round constant temperature is approx. 10 C.
Mystery Wlodarz Complex
Lovers of history and unsolved puzzles will be delighted! Part one of the largest and most mysterious mining projects of World War II is open to visitors. While visiting you’ll get a chance to meet the secrets and history of the project before traveling in underground passage boats. Maybe you’ll be the one who will find hidden passages and discover the secret of “Giant”?
Underground Chelm Passages
This worldwide unique labyrinth of underground passageways carved into the chalk. 2km tourist route runs through three underground complexes in the area of church. Following the underground chalk trail you will encounter numerous geological, archaeological and historical exhibits. Keep your eyes open for legendary guardian of the underworld Chelm – Spirit Belukha. The legend says that you can reveal him your deepest dreams, which supposedly come true!
Raj Cave (Paradise Cave)
Though small, it stands out among Polish caves with its rich and well-preserved dripstones. The corridors of the cave have been developed approx. 360 million years ago. The development of the cave occurred in several stages, mainly at the end of the Tertiary and Quaternary. The cave “Raj” delights with its variety of calcite forms.
Bear Cave
A real treat for lovers of photography and nature, who surely will fall in love with this place! Located here stalactites, stalagmites and draperies are considered to be some of the best in Poland! Keep your eyes open as you can see here… the calcite flowers and rare cave pearls (pisoliths). This strange underground world is just waiting to be discovered!
