Poland may become a center of advanced IT services due to highly qualified specialists and managers – according to a recent survey of IT@PL Antal International, which was presented on May 16 at a conference in PAIiIZ.

The study “IT@PL – IT job market in Poland” covered employers and employees of the IT sector. This concerned both education, qualifications, motivation of Polish IT specialists, as well as opportunities and threats to the development of the sector from the perspective of employers and investors. Patronage of the study covered the British Polish Chamber of Commerce.

The study shows that due to qualifications of specialized personnel and managers, foreign companies from the IT sector perceive Poland as an attractive place for development. One of the biggest advantages is the availability of candidates specialized in specific technologies. According to respondents, Poland is distinguish by relatively lower labor costs, high skills and employee involvement in projects, hobbies included in the work (for many IT workers it is a passion), and the geographical location of Poland facilitating communication with the centers in other countries, a similar time zone and cultural proximity .

Poland is increasingly attracting investments that require specialized human resources. – Among the projects currently supported by the Agency on the third place have been found the projects from R & D sector. We need to change the image of Poland where foreign investments are simple projects on a production line – said Sławomir Majman, PAIiIZ’s President. – Every year Polish students and graduates win international programming contests. This shows that Poland is not only numerous, but also well-educated staff – said Aleksander Libera from the Foreign Investment Department of PAIiIZ.

Polish IT managers are characterized by having a high technical knowledge. The individuals who have passed the path from engineer to manager, have experience in the industry. Their technical knowledge enables to command clear instructions to engineers and translating business needs into IT solutions. – The identification of the person who will be a good IT manager is not easy – especially since up to 58% of specialists prefer expert form of promotion, so horizontal not managerial promotion – said Łukasz Kośnik, a partner at Antal International and Director of Antal IT Services. – From the expert level employees have easier access to the news. As a manager they move away from technology and focus, among others on management – he added.
