“2014 will be a special time marked by round anniversaries of events from Poland’s modern history. 25 years of the systemic transformation, 15 years of our NATO and 10 years of our EU membership are an excellent opportunity to reinforce Poland’s positive image around the world,” Minister Radosław Sikorski said at the opening of the Council for the Promotion of Poland meeting on 11 July.
Minister Sikorski noted that next year will also be important due to the European Parliament election and the Solidarity Prize, which will be inaugurated on 4 June. The Council unanimously adopted a resolution about preparing Poland’s 2014 image campaign. The chief of Poland’s diplomacy urged that this opportunity for promoting Poland be seized, especially in countries with sizeable Polish communities.
The meeting’s special guest was a delegation from Wroclaw, which presented priorities of the 2016 European Capital of Culture (ECC) project. “The 2016 ECC is a prestigious title that will enable us to continue efforts undertaken in recent years to enhance Poland’s international image, such as the successful Presidency of the EU Council or the EURO 2012 football tournament,” Wroclaw’s President Rafał Dutkiewicz said. The Lower Silesian capital city has invited other Polish cities – especially its former 2016 ECC competitors – to engage in cultural cooperation.
The Council for the Promotion of Poland is an interministerial body that co-ordinates the promotion of our country and advises the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, ensuring cooperation among ministries and other institutions. The Council’s opinions are submitted to the Council of Ministers.
