From July 17 to 20, the campus of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences was buzzing with the positive energy of a thousand participants from 46 countries on six continents. The intense time was marked by meetings – both among peers and with leaders of Polish cultural, economic, political, and sports life. Among the guests of the Camp were: Senate Marshal Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, Prof. Jerzy Bralczyk, Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik, Otylia Jędrzejczak, Wojciech Jagielski, Szymon Marciniak, Michał Ogórek, Jurek Owsiak, Agata Passent, and many others, who met with participants during well-attended lectures, workshops, debates, and presentations. The dumpling-making workshop with Kuba Kuron was also very popular.
Let’s use young energy for Poland
– We wanted you to come and see what a wonderful, beautiful, and interesting country Poland is, (…) a country with which you can tie your future. I would like you, while you are here, to think about what we have to offer you, for example, studying in Poland, appealed Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, during a meeting with young Poles abroad on Saturday, July 19.
The Marshal also made an important declaration: the energy of the Polish diaspora youth will drive numerous projects that will receive institutional support from the Senate of the Republic of Poland and associated organizations in Poland and abroad. “The issue that is very important to me is to make use of your potential. I would like to establish a Polish Diaspora Youth Council – alongside the Polish Diaspora Advisory Council already operating under the Marshal of the Senate – so that the voice of young Poles abroad can be heard. When the Senate approves this – and I am convinced that it will do so with pleasure – I will invite you to apply for cooperation, joint action, and preparations for the next campus in Poland or elsewhere. It will be a good place to listen to each other and talk,” emphasized the Marshal of the Senate.
Young Poles are our best ambassadors
The young Polish diaspora also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. The head of Polish diplomacy encouraged young people to learn more about the country of their ancestors and to actively participate in its life. “Poland offers many opportunities that are not available in other countries. I encourage you to look for the best paths for yourselves here,” he said.
Radosław Sikorski emphasized that the image of Poland abroad is largely shaped by young members of the diaspora and encouraged them to participate in Polish cultural, scientific, and civic life: from volunteering and studying to involvement in public service. “Remember where you come from and be a bridge between the world you live in and the world you have heard about from your parents,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also emphasized that Polonia Camp is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of your country of origin and to consider connecting your adult life with Poland.
