21st Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) has already finished. The residents of Hull had a great fun and they willingly inserted coins into cans. In total, we collected a record-breaking amount of money £3972.54!!!

Over the last 20 years Poles proved and showed that life is the most important thing for them. It is unimaginable what Jurek Owsiak and his foundation done for the Polish medicine. It seems that faith can move mountains.

It was the third time when Hull collected money for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. This time, the volunteers collected money not only for children but also for decent medical care to the elderly people. The motto of this year’s finale was the “the dignity”, which was symbolized by the face of Albert Einstein.

The residents of our city were celebrating 21st finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity for two days. A night of heart took place in Staks Cafe Bar on 12.01.2013. All proceeds gathered from the tickets for this event was donated to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. All this thanks to the generosity of Polish businesses in Hull that willingly give us food to prepare the menu. The hard-working group of “chefs” made delicious dishes, which as it turned out, would even be sufficient for the entire Polish community of the city. The amusement was great – music invited people to dance. The parquet was especially full during the catchy and crazy song of the music band “Weekend”. After eating barszcz, krokiety and other decacies, it was time for the auction. We were impressed by the generosity and commitment all of the people, thanks to whom we had gathered more than 50 gadgets at our auction. We were bidding everything, starting from hairdressing and beauty services to the medal of the strongman. The most popular were souvenirs of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity e.g. calendars, T-shirts, the DVD of Woodstock and heart-shaped pen drive. The total amount of money collected during the auction was higher than £1400! I must admit that at the auction of the last idem, I did not almost have the voting rights. But it was worth it!

The following day, 13th January 2013, we had more familial amusement in Polish restaurant – Kuchnia. It was the Sunday of heart and this day was full of excitement, including: face painting, games, competitions with prizes and at the end the wonderful puppet show called “Cinderella”. I would like to thank all parents and their children for having good time and Mrs. Anna Godyń for cooking delicious soup and hosting us once again at her restaurant, the teachers form the Polish Saturday School SMC for leading the event and Mrs. Joanna Wegerska for professional photo shoots (from which the proceeds was also donated to WOŚP). About 5 p.m. we were on the vision – Poland and half of the world heard loud: “Hello” shouted by the residents of Hull. Then, it was time to eat a delicious, heart-shaped cake donated to us by G&K bakery.

Perhaps, this finale came to the end, but it will remain in our memory for a long time, at least until next year.

Thank you for such a great atmosphere and a bow to all of the volunteers, both small and big, for their help in the preparation of this event! I am proud that I could work with so wonderful people. All members of the staff were well-organized, smiled and ready to the hard work. Great thanks to: Iwona, Kamila, Radek, Donata, Magda, Edyta, Joasia, Karol, Agata, Kasia, my students and my son, who have endured continuous absence at home. Without you nothing would have worked!
