Hurghada, a resort famous for its luxury hotels, great beaches, diving schools and beautiful coral reefs, has retained its spot as the most popular charter holiday destination. However, the second-placed Tel Aviv, a cosmopolitan Mediterranean metropolis that never sleeps, is closing the gap. Cancun, Mexico, saw a huge increase of 437% after the launch of direct flights to Yucatan by travel company TUI in November 2014. Another “big riser” was Antalya on the Turkish Riviera, which jumped to the 10th in the ranking, with a 380% surge in passenger numbers compared to the first quarter of 2014.
