Wizzair is the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe. It was established in 2003 and it started operations one year later. In Poland, it is present almost since its beginning. Currently Wizzair has a fleet of 63 Airbus A320 aircraft flying from 22 bases on more than 390 routes connecting 113 locations in 38 countries.
In 12 years the carrier has handled 100 million passengers worldwide. The jubilee passenger has flown on Tuesday, October 20th from London Luton to Warsaw.
– It is a great honour, that Wizz Air celebrates its big jubilee here in Warsaw. We perceive it as a proof of the great importance the carrier attaches to the Polish market and Chopin Airport as one of its most important bases. For us, Wizzair is also a very important partner: it is the second largest airline and one of the leaders of the most dynamically developing carriers – says Michał Kaczmarzyk, director of Chopin Airport.
Wizzair in its base in Warsaw has currently five A320 aircraft that fly on direct routes to 33 cities in Europe. From May next year, the carrier will increase the number of aircraft in its base to six. In addition, two of the previously used A320s will be replaced with new and larger A321. Wizzair also plans to launch four new routes (Aberdeen, Bari, Bristol, Reykjavik) and increase in the offer on eight previously served routes from Warsaw.
– We have received the news on the delivery of an additional aircraft to the base and launching of new destinations from Chopin Airport with great joy. Expanding the offer of convenient connections from Warsaw and bringing the Polish capital closer to the world is our strategic goal, on which we are working hard every day. We are pleased that Wizzair’s objectives in this case coincide with ours, because our joint efforts ultimately provide benefits to our mutual customers – said Michał Kaczmarzyk, director of Chopin Airport.
