Excursions to places of awe and wonder.
Undiscovered treasures is an educational travel quiz show broadcasted by TVP Polonia. Every Sunday at 5 pm when you sit in front of your TV, you should be prepared for a virtual journey which will take you different places you wouldn’t find in travel brochures. These unique and mysterious regions deserve the name of the eponymic treasures. In each episode, the authors of the show will provide you with real touristic treats from all over the country.
The idea of the show is to present to Poles who live abroad the unexplored side of their country. We’re not interested in the well-known touristic venues. Instead, we try to go with our camera to places located beyond the main trails. To our delight, in our pursuit of the intriguing sites, we’ve managed to involve Joanna Lampaska – a traveller, author of travel and history books concerning both the mysterious, unexplored places and these more popular with the wider public. Due to her experience you may be certain that in every episode you’ll find out something new about the most beautiful parts of our country – says Witold Świętniski, the director and coauthor of the programme.
Every encounter with the viewers consists of a virtual journey by an old-fashioned biplane aircraft flying over most attractive touristic regions. Regardless of the area; whether it’s Mazuria, Pomerania, Silesia or Tatry Mountains; the bird’s-eye-view perspective allows you to have a better look at the locations.
The pilot, and the host (Paweł Gołębiewski – Radio dla Ciebie presenter) always spots various curiosities, peculiarities of natural environment, and those least conventional visiting sites, which he immediately pinpoints to the viewers. An old windmill, remnants of a castle, a war bunker, or a recently renovated palace- either of them may be a source of a unique and mysterious tales.
Each place is being thoroughly described by a “stewardess”. The viewers are also able to get a closer look thanks to film excerpts depicting the site, which comes close second to getting off on a clearing and going for a walk with a tour guide.
The host asks a question concerning the particular place of interest, the answer to which should be given via Skype. The prize is a weekend-long stay in one of the most beautiful castles and palaces in Poland. And who wouldn’t love to spend a night in the apartments worthy of a king? The winners include participants from Poland, SPain, Canada, USA, France and Germany
Undiscovered Treasures has educational values, and at the same time remains entertaining. It advertises small towns together with their tourist attractions. It is fair to assume that having seen such a programme the viewers, and especially those from abroad, will go and try to get to know their own country better in order to pursue those magical places. Making plans for these ventures is facilitated by the use of maps which show distances between the points introduced in a given episode.
If you feel that you have a flair for travelling and discovering new places, you definitely should engage in the journey across the country with TVP Polonia and Undiscovered Treasures. Then you very well may go on your own adventure.
