The Olympic Games will be held in sports facilities in Kielce and the surrounding area of this city. It will be the sixteenth edition of this sporting event. The last one took place in Lower Silesia. More than 2 thousand people from 32 countries participated in the previous edition; almost 1700 players, who competed in 28 sports disciplines. The team classification won, then Germany, followed by Canada and Austria.
Over 1300 participants from Lithuania, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Canada, Belarus, Austria, Russia, Germany, Moldavia, the United States and Latvia have already signed up to this year’s Olympics. The players will compete in 18 disciplines, including cycling, basketball, badminton, athletics, archery and swimming.
This sports event enjoys huge popularity among Polish diaspora and has been organized since 1934; then it was called Polonia Olympic Sports. It has been under the patronage of Andrzej Stelmachowski since 1997, and since that time this event has been called the World Polonia Games. It is held every two years in different cities in Poland. Polish people living abroad take part in the Olympics. They represent the countries in which they live now. The aim of the Olympics is the integration of Polish diaspora; the decision who will be the organizer is taken by the Association of Polish Community.
