The motto of this year’s edition is “The Post-Crisis World: Time for New Leaders”, which is why may debates are devoted to challenges facing Europe in the upcoming years: the future of power engineering in the context of supply security and EU climate policy, building of knowledge-based economy, searching for the new sources of economic growth, development of relationships with the new economic powers.
This year’s Forum is special one due to the 25th anniversary of the democratic transformation in Central Europe and the 10th anniversary of Poland’s membership in the EU. The anniversaries will be the starting point for debates that will feature leading politicians and intellectuals: Karel Schwarzenberg, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Czech Republic, Jose Luis Zapatero, former Prime Minister of Spain (2004-2011), Andrius Kubilius, former Prime Minister of Latvia (1999-2000 and 2008-2012), Luigi Ippolito, Head of Foreign Affairs Department at “Corriera della Sera” daily and Joerg Lau, journalist at “Die Zeit” weekly.
But first of all, the Forum is all about the economic debates. This year, debates promise to be interesting about the recovery from the crisis and challenges facing financial and banking sectors. Many chairmen of central banks announced their participation: Miroslav Singer from the Czech Republic, Gyorgyi Matolscy from Hungary, Boris Vujčić from Croatia, Dimitar Bogom from Macedonia and Valentin Lazla, Chief Economist of the National Bank of Romania .
The 24th Economic Forum will last until 4th of September.
