„Joanna has been introduced me by the Director of the Polish Institute in Tokio, now I am looking forward to see what she will present at our Biennale” – says Yoko Nakata, director of the Biwako Bienalle.
70 artists of modern art from all around the world will take a part in the 7th edition of the Biwako Biennale. Joanna Hawrot will be performing with such a great names like Hiroko Koshino – an outstanding fashion designer and a sister of design icon Junko Koshino, the first person who took Polish honorary doctorate of fashion at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. The latest project was created in cooperation with Kassily Wandinsky. It refers to conscious creation of new visual language, the alphabet of colour and passwords. Together they form a new grammar for artistic language based on the assumption that the color can live only in conjunction with the letter-message. Basing on NATO Phonetic Alphabet, they use it to code one sign the relation between colour, form and the content. The result is a visual game #KASSILYGAME written in the form of printing on fabric, which you can read and compose freely as letter-messages. Its premiere will take place during the participation in the two cultural festivals in Japan. The game of the same title also announces the latest designer collection for Autumn/Winter 2016/17.
The premiere of Joanna Hawrot’s vs Kassily Wandinsky multimedia installation is going to headline opening ceremony of the Japanese Biennale. At Hawrot’s special invitation, an experimental musical pair AWAYA are going to participate in this project. All of the part will create together a combination of creative works from two distant cultures – the East and the West.
At the invitation of the Polish Institute in Tokyo Joanna Hawrot will give a lecture of her philosophy FROM FASHION TO ART accompanied by an exhibition of kimonos called WEARABLE ART in reputable gallery 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Tokio.
„Participation in two prestigious cultural events in Japan accompanied by great artists is an honour. I am glad that my consistently implemented vision has been appreciated by the international environment. It is a real chance to expand into the fashion and art market in Asia” – sums up Joanna Hawrot.
Her trip to Japan is an example of a skillful combination of fashion, art and business. It is a proof that European design is more and more interesting for the Far East. Joanna Hawrot joins the group of Polish designers who pave the way in the international arena of world design.
