Once again The Hague is the setting for the ‘V4 Business Women Congress’ on International Women’s Day. Never before have so many business women from East-European countries congregated to help other women with their careers or entrepreneurship. They will share their knowledge and experience during lectures and workshops. International research shows that women in Eastern Europe are very ambitious and hold top positions more frequently than women in the Western world.
On International Women’s Day on 8th March, the initiator, Kasia Nowak, looks forward to welcome some 300 women from Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic at the Promenade Hotel in The Hague. Many of these women have joined their husbands in The Netherlands. Unlike their husbands they stand a much smaller chance of a successful career or life as an entrepreneur without qualifications or network. Yet, an increasing number of these women manage to develop them-selves by, for instance, undergoing further training. During the Women’s Congress experienced business women will share their experience, knowledge and networks with hundreds of women who aspire to a similar career.
Eastern Europe has more women at the top
The initiator, Kasia Nowak has over the last few years observed that women from Eastern Europe are much more ambitious than people realise. Mercer Research shows that in Hungary or Poland 33% and 30% respectively of top positions are held by women. In the Netherlands this figure stands at only 19%. According to Nowak, who has worked her way up to Procurement Manager for an internationally operating company, it is important that these women get an opportunity to realise their potential. “With this congress we will show that stereotyping Eastern European women is not always correct. Most of these women speak Dutch, are ambitious and successful in their careers”.
V4 Business Women Congress
At the congress visitors will be inspired by drs. Tatiana Wijnberg-Kratochvil. She fled to The Netherlands in 1968, graduated as clinical psychologist and followed a career as psychotherapist and author. Dorota Klop-Sowinska is yet another speaker; she has been working as a coach and career advisor for a number of years.
The congress is an initiative by Kasia Nowak, the Trade and Investment Promotion Section of the Polish Embassy, OTTO Work Force and the Hungarian Business Network. In addition, the event is supported by, inter alia, the embassies of the V4-countries (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic) as well as the Municipality of The Hague.
