The author wrote “Aftersounds” (two drummers and electronic instruments) during his one-year Cursus 2 internship at the IRCAM musical research centre, where scientists work with composers and performers on different methods of using new technologies.

“Aftersounds” is the attempt to connect the afterimage optical phenomenon with music – explains Marcin Stańczyk – I was also inspired by similar efforts undertaken by artists working in other areas, such as a series of solaristic paintings called “Sun afterimages” by Władysław Strzemiński or selected pieces from “The Streets of Crocodiles” by Bruno Schulz. I used to write music where I juxtaposed sounds and their reflections. Now I wanted to focus on the fleeting impression that one has after listening to a piece of music. I thought: can a piece of music that sounds like a “memory of music” be written?

“Aftersounds” will be performed by the Ensemble Intercon-temporain solo artists, Samuel Favre and Hervé Trovel, conducted by Matthias Pintscher. The concert will take place on 12th September at 20:00 in the Espace de projection room at IRCAM.

This first performance will be recorded by Radio France and broadcast on France Musique on 29th September at 20:00 in the programme called “Les lundis de la contemporaine”.
