The Iraqi delegation outlined in Warsaw on January 16th the programme of the city’s reconstruction and development for the next few years to representatives of Polish companies interested in doing business on the Iraqi market. Polish entrepreneurs presented their offering and had talks with the Iraqis about conditions for doing business projects in their country. Deputy Minister Kacperczyk emphasised that Polish companies were involved in Iraq’s infrastructure projects already back in the 1970s. “Our construction industry today stands for an altogether different quality. Polish companies are competitive, and their services receive praise abroad. I have no doubt they would be valued in Bagdad, too,” said the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy.
The meeting’s participants pointed out that Polish companies are interested in taking part in the process of Iraq’s reconstruction. The meeting with Bagdad’s delegation is an important step in looking for new forms of co-operation. The Iraqi authorities are seeking companies ready to carry out projects included in the National Development Plan, which focuses on five industries: energy, construction and services, agriculture, education and transport. The meeting also discussed the state of Polish–Iraqi relations, political situation in Iraq and the construction of new headquarters for the Polish embassy in Bagdad.
