The meeting was organised as a backdrop to the premiere of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera, Don Giovani, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. The premiere will take place in the Theatre Royal La Monnaie on 2 December 2014.

The meeting titled “Hidden memories of Warsaw. The link between culture and society” was attended by Professor Barbara Kirschenblatt-Gimblett; the representative of the POLIN Museum and author of its main exhibition. Also present were other Polish guests, and the representatives of the Le Soir journal and Belgian academic circles. The guests arrived at the invitation of Krzysztof Warlikowski, La Monnaie De Munt, and the Polish Institute in Brussels.

The guests of the meeting also watched a documentary titled We can’t come from nothing, by a Dutch director Eliane Esther Bots. The documentary was shot as part of her stay at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

Don Giovanni will be Krzysztof Warlikowski’s fourth production directed at the La Monnaie Theatre, after Medea in 2008, Macbeth in 2010, and Lulu in 2012.
