It seems that in the university there is very little connection with the arts at the School of Economics in Warsaw, which teaches future leaders of banking, managers and analysts. It is difficult to find someone who would be active in the passion for culture, especially popular culture. However, it appears that the SGH hides dozens of such people! Together with students from other universities in Warsaw, they formed the university’s Song and Dance Band (ZPiT SGH), presenting Polish achievements in the field of national dances and songs as well as performing the dances of the region.
This year marks nine years since it all began. Since then, the team joined the ranks of more than 150 Polish folklore enthusiasts who continually showcase their hobby to hundreds of people at home and abroad!
The main purpose of ZPiT SGH is to promote Polish folklore and national traditions as well as cultivating patriotism. The team presented their artistic achievements at folk festivals in Turkey, Spain, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and Italy. The team has also danced before the King of Morocco, Muhammad VI, and the Polish community living in Casablanca.
The team also carries out a special project for the Polish community, enabling patriots living abroad to contact with Polish culture and tradition. As part of the project “ZPiT SGH for Poland” dancers from the Warsaw School of Economics’ performed for the Poles in Lviv (2007, 2011), Vilnius (2008) and Ivano-frankiwsk (2010).
In their free time, team members embellished their dancing and singing during events at their Alma Mater, and engaged in charitable activities.
