Student Interdisciplinary Scientific SAE (SMKN SAE) Aero Design competition conquered in 2013 in California. Polish students, being first since the commencement of the event, took first three places in the overall standing in each class. Students also won six other awards, giving them a total of nine podium awards.
The competition consists of constructing a remote-controlled, unmanned aerial vehicle, which is to carry as much weight as possible. The judges give points, among others, for aerodynamic concept of the machine, the use of unique solutions, presentation of the model, reliability and weight carried by the aircraft.
The winners overtook several academic teams from all over the world: the United States, Canada, Brazil and India. Thanks to advanced electronics built entirely by Polish students, there were able to – as the one and only – to shed the load into a designated area. This achievement attracted the attention not only of the judges, but also of other teams, because nobody managed to achieve it before!
SMKN SAE students take part in the Aero Design competition since 1991. This year’s Aero Design competition takes place on 12-14 of April in California. Organized every year in the United States SAE Aero Design competition is the most important global event for young designers as well as such giants as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Embraer and NASA.
