The works of professional designers (Category A) will be shown at the Poster Museum in Wilanów and the works of debuting artists (Category B) will be displayed at the Salon Akademii gallery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

As part of the competition objectives, which have remained unchanged since 1966, the IPB diagnoses the condition of poster design. The prestigious event is an ennobling experience for all participants. Numerous significant artists have played a part in the history of the Biennale, many of whom have become classics of the field. “The International Poster Biennale was and remains the most important open competition of this sort in the world, juxtaposing the tradition of the ‘Polish poster school’ with foreign works,” says Mariusz Knorowski, curator at the Poster Museum in Wilanów, “It is a one-of-a-kind artistic lexicon of knowledge of the contemporary world as interpreted by graphic designers, who care about the perception of the phenomena and facts of their reality. It is the greatest forum for exchange of artistic ideas and aesthetic experiments.

This year’s edition of the IPB took on a new format. For the first time, works were submitted online and – as a result – were evaluated by the International Jury as early as at the first stage of the competition. Stephan Bundi, David Crowley, Kenya Hara, Jerzy Porębski, Silvia Sfligiotti and Jakub Hakobo Stępień saw 3,814 posters in total. 349 and 64 artworks have been selected for the competition exhibitions in the A and B categories, respectively. At the next stage, during the session in Warsaw, the Jury will award prizes – one Gold, two Silver and three Bronze Medals in Category A and the “Henryk Tomaszewski Golden Debut” award in Category B.

The competition exhibitions will be accompanied by two other shows, just as important for the Biennale. These will present the works of the winners of the 23rd IPB – Tetsuro Minorikawa (Japan) and Jianping He (Germany), and of the members of the Jury at the 24th IPB – Stephan Bundi (Switzerland), Kenya Hara (Japan) and Jakub Stępień Hakobo (Poland).

The competition has been organized by the Poster Museum in Wilanów since 1994, however this year’s edition has been planned in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and – for the first time – with the Association of Applied Graphic Designers STGU. During the Graphic Design Fair coordinated by STGU, on 7 and 8 June 2014, the visitors will have an opportunity to listen to the debates and discussion panels on poster design with the participation of the Jury members and guests from Poland and abroad.
