The Museum of Applied Arts in Vilnius has opened Materia Prima, an exhibition that displays works by twelve Polish designers side-by-side with bird’s eye panoramas by the well-known young photographer Kacper Kowalski.

Every exhibition resembles telling a story. This one is about the locality and how our surroundings penetrate our consciousness, thus influencing the imagination. It is also a story about local values and the eagerness with which young designers make use of craft tradition,” emphasizes Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, curator of the exhibition.

Materia Prima, mounted by the Polish Institute in Vilnius and the Lithuanian Art Museum, discovers relations between everyday objects. Objects juxtaposed with pictures explain each other. Thanks to the objects, we understand the pictures better, and thanks to the pictures, we see the objects in new light. The exhibition discusses the symbiosis of nature and art, borders between creating and recreating, documentation and creation.

The exhibition will run in Vilnius until March 2, 2014. Then it will travel to Kaunas.
