This is already the fifth edition of the grant competition related to the Polish diaspora and Poles abroad. Each year sees an increase in the number of projects financed under the competition. In 2012, the funding went for 87 projects worth a total of PLN 54 million, compared with 112 projects at PLN 62 million in 2013, 136 projects at PLN 59 million in 2014, and 155 projects worth PLN 53 million in 2015.
This year’s edition has kept up the main thematic categories: education (PLN 16.8 m), Polish diaspora media (PLN 6.5 m), Polish diaspora infrastructure (PLN 9.8 m), Polish communities in the country of residence (PLN 15.5 m), contact and links with Poland (PLN 10.9 m). This year, an additional regranting category has been established, which allows providing selected entities with grants for holding subsequent small grant competitions will lower budgets (PLN 5,000 – PLN 50,0000). The change responds to the amended Act on Public Benefit Activity and Volunteer Service, designed to promote this form of financing public tasks. The small grants formula allows expanding cooperation with smaller organisations.
In this year’s edition the MFA increased funding opportunities for educational establishments in labour migration countries with Polish national minorities and in the United States and Canada, in line with the need to preserve and strengthen Polish links of the young generation of the Polish diaspora and Poles living there. In addition to the PLN 61 million available under the competition, the MFA will allocate a further PLN 2 million in 2016 for the annual competition of the Ministry of National Education related to teacher training.
The MFA encourages all interested parties to enter the competition.
