Milton Keynes is very specific place. When moving in, we had no idea about it. However, we found out, that it is completely different than capital, where we have spent our first months on the Islands. After lively London we ended up in the province.
I remember first day in MK. It was hot Saturday in June and we had our first mission to complete – house hunting, which included travelling between Bletchley and Kents Hill. Today it’s easy-peasy but over 7 years ago it took us around 2 hours and a sun burnt because of long waiting at the bus stop.
None the less we already knew that MK is the place in UK when we feel like home. The first month was like a proper holiday even though I was working full-time. The main reason for that was a fact we didn’t have to spend over 3 hours to commute to work and back as it used to be in London.
At that time Milton Keynes was not the destination place for young Polish immigrants. We also came here accidently. However in the course of time quite many of us have found here a place to work and a place to live.
As in real life we have experienced many different types of issues – starting from a small accident at roundabout and finishing on four-month-old “shower battle” with our landlord. After quite a few years in MK our “list of experiences” has grown into a really long one.
Since the beginning we knew that MK is quite a challenging place to organize a social life, especially for national minorities. Because of that we got the idea to create a web portal for people who live in Milton Keynes and in surrounding places as well.
It has been quite a few years since we got the idea to the moment when we have actually started it. We wanted to make sure we have all necessary date and information about this place. The length of time has worked for our benefit as nowadays number of Poles here has increased radically.
We work with a great help of our friends and mates who are specialists in many different subjects. Obviously we could not manage without a huge help of our Web Master who is based in Poland and even so is always ready to help.
Our main goal was always to help, inform and mediate. Basically to make our life in the UK easier and nicer.
We are always trying to place interesting articles about nearly everything. We also want to make sure everybody will remember about close, historical relationship between Poland and Britain. That’s why for instance, there is really great photo-report taken at Bletchley Park during celebration of “Polish Day”, where years ago Polish mathematics solved the mystery of Enigma. At the same time we would like to present a bit closer British traditions like for example Pancake Day or Leap Day. And all that to make sure we will feel here like at home.
Our priority is to make sure people who live in MK have quick and easy access to all necessary information. We also want to make sure people know about all nice and interesting places around where they can spend time with family and friends. Also our weekly “Party Pill” is always full of concerts, parties and events where people can enjoy themselves not only between Poles.
There are a lot of organizations, back in Poland and in the UK, which are offering wide range of help for Poles abroad. As one of our main goals is to help, we have established co-operation with a great amount of them. Because of that we are hoping vast amount of us have already been provided with necessary help and whoever will need it in future will get it as well.
Running and improving this website has become a very time-taking hobby which gives us lots of satisfaction. Here, on “Link to Poland” website we would like to officially thank to all our Followers for their support. It has been over a year since we have started working on the website and helping people from MK to live easier and more engaging.
