The Pole of the Year in The Netherlands contest was set up by the Polonus Foundation since 2011. Polonus Foundation, as a part of the contest, distinguishes and appreciates the successes of Poles in the Netherlands, whether in business, cultural, scientific or professional work. Furthermore, the Foundation honours the honorary Polonus – a Dutch person or a Dutch organisation that makes exceptional effort to strengthen Polish-Dutch relations.

The previous editions of the Pole of the Year in the Netherlands contest have each been well-organised events, with exceptional musicians, honoured guests and, above all, 119 candidates and 25 finalists – because this contest is organised with them in mind.

Each edition of the contest reaches a wide audience, not just of Poles living in the Netherlands, but foremost Dutch. The first Gala Award Ceremony was attended by nearly 2,000 people, with later editions attracting, 600, 800 and 800 participants. That’s how you should work on the image of Poland!

The contest elections of the Pole of the Year in the Netherlands is a good example of effective Poland and Polish people image building – showcasing the creative and the entrepreneurial sides of Poland. The contest certainly helps in correcting the distorted image of Poland and Polish people in the Netherlands and proves that Poles do not necessarily have to be associated only with cheap labour.

Let’s go back to the past edition of the contest and learn more about the winners.
