Hardcourt Bike Polo is one of the youngest municipal sports disciplines. In Poland it has been present since 2009. Since then, Bike Polo is gaining more and more fans, arousing the interest and admiration of people, who often have nothing to do with bikes. Currently, there are more and more active players in Poland, who can be found in nine cities. The game involves two teams of three players. To play you need a bike, stick, helmet, street hockey ball and a will to chase the ball.
The Polish Championships were held during the weekend of 7-8 September on the street Rokosowska 10, on the grounds of OSiR Ochota in Wrocław. 14 teams from eight cities participated in the tournament . After many exciting matches and fierce struggles on the pitch, the team of The Beardless from Krakow became Polish champions for the first time. . Ranked second place were last year’s champions, Team Apollo 3 from Warsaw, while inthird place was the team Die Psychotropen, which consisted of two players from Krakow and one from Germany. After two years of dominance in Polish stadiums, Apollo 3 team, after dramatic battles and injuries of the one of players, who had to leave the pitch in the last few minutes and who was replaced by another player, lost out to the guys from Krakow.
After the championship one of the participants said:
“Football matches are the best polo finals live we have ever seen, even at the European Championships in Krakow were not seen such excitement and fight like here. In the final minutes even Peter’s father cheered and pounded his hand in a band like everyone else. “
The Championships were connected with two months of work and preparation. It is worth noting that the organization of the event involved many kind and helpful people. For the second time the tournament was held in Warsaw. Previously the Championships were held in Poznan (2010), Warsaw (2011), Krakow (2012). For the first time polo players were gathered on OSiR Ochota, the first time they played in a covered hall with lights. and also, it was the first time it was such a high level competition
