Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, the biggest and most important design exhibition in Scandinavia, was featuring works by the most gifted young Polish designers. Their creations was on displayed in Sweden’s capital from 3 until 7 February. The event has been co-organized by the Polish Institute in Stockholm.

Polish American actor and director Omar Sangare has been teaching for a few years at Williams College, settling down in the USA in order to become a professor at the college of liberal arts, which is at the top of America’s league tables. A former actor of the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, the New York Times wrote after Sangare’s performance in “Othello” that he was born to play that role. Here he explains that the most important thing for him is to be a Pole, because of the experience and inspiration he gained in his motherland.

Czesław Śpiewa, well known Polish singer, composer and accordionist will visit Liverpool as part of the UK tour after visiting London, Bristol and Cardiff with his newest album “Book of Emigrants – Volume I”. The concert is hosted by Merseyside Polonia, a local Polish NGO organisation promoting Polish culture in the UK. The concert takes place at Parr Street Studio 2 on 23rd of January at 7.00 p.m.

December 13 marked the European Films Awards ceremony in Riga. Ida, a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received the award for Best European Film of 2014. The film also won the Best European Director award for Paweł Pawlikowski and Best European Screenwriter award for Paweł Pawlikowski and Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski received the Carlo Di Palma Award for Best European Cinematographer. Ida also received the EFA People’s Choice Award, the winner of which is selected by European viewers in an online vote.
