Considering most notable of recent Polish cinema achievements – Oscar awarded ‘Ida’ by Paweł Pawlikowski or widely acclaimed ‘Body’ by Małgorzata Szumowska – one can assume that Polish cinematography has now a lot to offer. Play Poland Film Festival, opening on October 20 in Edinburgh, will definitely try to prove the point.

History does not have to and should not be boring. Our Polish history is simply fascinating. The Nowoczesna Polska Foundation has selected seven works of Polish literature which will serve as an example of what is important and remains unchanged. Within the “Listen Everywhere” Project there have been several podcasts recorded. They will tell you about the connections between history and literature.

Andrzej Wajda, the Polish and international cinema legend, died on 9 October 2016 in Warsaw. He was 90 years old. His last film, Powidoki, is Poland’s candidate for this year’s Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The winner of Oscar for production design in “Schindler’s List” will receive a Special Golden Angel for lifetime achievement. Mr. Starski is considered to be one of the best production designers in international cinema. In addition to the awarding ceremony, there will also be a section dedicated to his films – all the films featured in the section have been selected by the author himself.

He died 20 years ago, on 13 March 1996, of a heart attack during a heart operation. On this year’s 27 June he would have celebrated his 75th birthday. In remembrance of his great oeuvre he was chosen to be the patron of the year 2016 by the Polish Film Academy: Krzysztof Kieślowski, one of the best film directors of the 20th century.

On September 24th, Dutch pianist Rogier Telderman will head to Poland for a clubtour with his trio. They will perform at some of the most prestigious of Polish jazzclubs such as the 12on14 club in Warsaw, the legendary Blue Note in Poznań, Piec’ Art in Kraków and jazzclub Vertigo in Europes cultural capital Wrocław.
