For three days of debates and meetings in Warsaw the Nobel Peace Laureates will discuss the challenges of the global civilization and actions supporting democracy and world peace. The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, initiated in 2000 in Rome by the former president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, is one of the most important events organised each year in different places across the globe to propagate democratic values and the significance of freedom and peace.
The thematic sessions with the participation of the Nobel Peace Laureates will be held in the Kongresowa Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science and the conference closure will take place in the edifice of the Grand Theatre. The organisers of this year’s World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates are: The Lech Wałęsa Institute, The Permanent Secretariat of Nobel Peace Laureates Summits and capital city of Warsaw.
Confirmed guests include e.g.: Tibet’s spiritual leader, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama; the former President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev; the former President of the Republic of South Africa Frederik Willem de Klerk, Iranian lawyer Shirin Ebadi, Leyman Gbowee from Liberia, Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan from Ireland and the creator of the idea of microcredit Muhammad Yunus. Around two thousand people will attend the meetings and events accompanying the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.
– The initiative taken up by the Lech Wałęsa Institute to organise the 13th Summit in Poland is not only prestigious, but also historical. The fact that Warsaw hosts this year’s edition of the Summit will remind the world about the timelessness of the idea of Polish Solidarity – emphasized Piotr Gulczyński, President of the Lech Wałęsa Institute. This year’s meeting of the Nobel Prize Laureates coincides with the 30th anniversary of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Leach Wałęsa.
